Birthing support for mothers to be and their families
Doula in Bath.
Birth partner in Bath
Doula, as defined by The Oxford English Dictionary, is
“a woman who gives support, help and advice to another woman in pregnancy and during and after the birth”.
It is derived from an ancient Greek word meaning woman in service. Now doula is used to mean a birth supporter for the mother and her family. Care and support commences during the antenatal period. It often includes continuous support throughout labour and is also available in the postnatal period.
Care available may be defined as physical, emotional or practical. Skills such as massage and breast feeding help are also available.
